I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (NLT)
Having had something of a crazy week (and I’m sure I’m in good company) I‘ve been reminded again that no matter what comes at us, or against, no matter what threatens to undo us, that Jesus makes the difference between being swallowed up and being OK.
The “world” can be different things on different days and different things to each of us. It may be a work situation going sour, an almighty mess in the kitchen, an almighty mess in a relationship, the state of our bank balance, the state of our health, our own fears or an off hand rejection. It might be little mouths all wanting food and attention and a bath at the same time or just a thing or two we totally didn’t see coming.
Whatever it is, whatever our “world”.
We have Jesus – our way maker when we can’t see a way.
The one who sheds light on our path.
The one who makes the path.
This past weeks brought to mind these words I wrote to you a year or so back. Old words but good truth that hit home this week.
It’s bossy and demanding and unfriendly, it bites and stings and bruises. Unrelenting in its requirements, cruel, incongruous and exhausting to fathom.
The world that is.
It will kick the stuffing right out of you – – – – and then come back for seconds.
And then there is Jesus – standing whisper close saying – it’s OK – I’ve bossed life right back, finished on top, had the final say.
In between the world and us is the One who has overcome it all, the One who has faced it all head on and won, the One who endured all that the world would throw at Him and in doing so took away its power to destroy us.
The world – He’s turned it on its end and put it in its place.
He came to give us life – a full life – in a world intent on taking it away. We’re no longer at its mercy because He has placed us right in the middle of His mercy, washed us clean and covered us up in His righteousness. His words are a comfort and a shield and a sure thing when nothing else is sure, His love a blanket and a soft place when life is full of edges, His fullness filling up our empty, His light consuming our darkness, His peace taking care of our chaos and nothing, nothing can separate us from Him. (Romans 8:38-39)
“ – – – we’re safe now. The worst has already happened and it happened to Jesus and nothing else can wreck us. Edie Wadsworth ~ Life in Grace
These good words too in a phone conversation with my sister – – – –
Whatever we can name, whatever it is, its under the name of Jesus!!!
Every last thing.
His name is greater, His name covers all.
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
Jesus the name that overcomes our world.
Have a beautiful Wednesday
