John 5 :24
Hi ladies – lets have a look at John 5 today. You know when you go to one of those big multi level shopping mall complexes – especially if its for the first time – finding a car park and an entrance can be a challenge in itself
– you drive up levels, down levels and around in circles to get a park – you do the same on foot to get to an entrance, then once you’re in the shopping centre –
you’re all turned around and have to work out where you are and what direction the shops you want to go to are.
To add to that there are lights, people, music and smells all vying for your attention – excitement, opportunity and a headache all rolled into one.
Now most shopping malls don’t want their customers wandering dazed, confused & hungry so they will often have site maps located near the entrances –
and on the map will be a big arrow saying “you are here”. I like those maps and I like the big arrow cause it means I can get my bearings of where I am in relation to everything else in the shopping centre.
I can work out what level I’m on, where the shops are I want to go to, where the “ladies” are and where I can buy lunch and a coffee.
Now at the risk of stating the obvious – we know life is choc full of challenges – its beautiful but its demanding – it can take all our courage and energy and – its ups and downs,
twists and turns and “didn’t see that coming” moments can leave us confused disoriented and wondering “what the?” In those moments we need to know where we are.
John 5: 24 is one of those big “you are here” arrows. “I assure you, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life.
They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death to life.”
This scripture locates us securely and firmly – with Him, In His life, in His love, on the winning side – already, no ifs, buts or maybes and no matter what is going on in our lives.
His life is our life, it’s our sustenance, our way through and our joy.
