Dwell

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.  Philippians 4:8

This is one of my favorite scriptures – has been for years. It’s saved me a thousand times over – – –

Saved me from countless time spent feeling sorry for myself and examining the short straw I think I’ve drawn.

Saved me from endless wondering why and what for and how come and if only – hours of looking back and not moving forward.

Saved me from my own negative self talk and disbelief and despair and – – – a mountain of other things

Saved me from myself.

We are so easily given to our own thinking about things aren’t we? We all have our moments when our emotions and thoughts get the better of us but we don’t want to make our home there – we don’t want to get that track so well worn it’s hard to see any other way to go.

So “Let God be true, and every human being a liar.” – – – Romans 3:4 a

See our wayward thoughts tell giant tales of woe, they exaggerate and embellish and down right lie. They draw us in and they never let the truth get in the way of a good story. They are cruel and tortuous, they don’t relent or cut you a break and the odds always end up stacked against you and – – – we can’t see God from there.

But verses like these are gold; they remind us of the better way. Paul redirects us away from our own dubious and flailing thinking and onto all that Jesus is. Simple in what is required of us – think, consider, dwell on and ponder these things – – – it’s choosing His truth instead of our own truth, leaning into it, dwelling on One thing instead of all our things.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 NIV

In the minutes and the moments we have at hand today let’s think ourselves into life – not out of it. Those minutes turn into our hours, our days, our weeks and our year. In those minutes He changes us and we get to share in His life and the life He meant us to enjoy.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” Psalm 91:1-2

Have a great day everyone
