Small Wonders

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.   Colossians 3:12

Clothe ourselves? Not as we would a work uniform – not like something we have to do – but because it’s part of our “made in His image” nature and because we belong to Him.

Clothed in compassion, cloaked in mercy, attired in kindness.

In everyday terms it’s God reflected in our actions and in the love we show. Most often played out in small and simple ways but it’s these small and simple ways that will make the difference every time. To us and to others.

When your having “a day” or one of those weeks – – – when things start going pear shaped almost before they are begun. Or when you feel your holding on by the thinnest of threads and there’s someone getting on your last nerve – – – – you know those days.

A small kindness, a few words of encouragement, a real smile, a comfortable chair, a well placed cappuccino, a listening ear, a shared laugh, a deep breath, a helping hand – – – – a life line.

Small things that help us find our feet and catch our breath, that comfort and help us and remind us we are not on our own. That point us toward God. Like gold.

They’ll draw us back from the brink and down from the ledge, they’ll keep us holding on and moving forward and taking heart.

Small things that reflect the very heart of God.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 2 Corinthians 1:3

How much more to those who don’t know Him?. How much more do they need to see God’s kindness in us? Not in heroic acts or elaborate displays – but in the everyday business of caring and noticing and being kind and doing what we can.

Simple gestures, small kindnesses, tender mercies  – the ones that won’t go viral, that don’t make it to YouTube – because they are not showy or flashy – too ordinary, too everyday, too mundane – those ones – that you do all the time and might think aren’t important – they soften hearts and build hope and let people know that they matter.

God’s magnificence right there within our mundane.

God’s extraordinary love flowing through our ordinary hands.

God Bless and have a great Wednesday.
