On March 11 ‘The Buffalo News’ reported that a man jumped into the Niagara River at Niagara Falls, Ontario and went over the Horseshoe Falls.  Unbelievably and against all odds he survived – even after being in below-freezing water for 40 minutes before being rescued!  Witnesses report that he was fully clothed when he jumped into the river, however when rescued, he was completely naked.  The force of the water as he went over the falls stripped him of his clothes!

Now that is POWER! I was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York and lived about 10-15 kms. from the actual ‘falls’ and when everything was quiet at night, you could hear them roar!  The ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat ride takes you right to the bottom of the Falls where it is thundering above you – quite spectacular and awesome!  That power, majesty & splendour originated from a much more powerful source!

The Bible tells us that ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’ (Genesis 1:1) and that ‘…He upholds all things by His Power’ (Hebrews 1:3).  In Psalm 19:1 we are told ‘The heavens declare the glory of God and the earth shows His handiwork.’  Those Falls did not ‘just happen’ or ‘just appear.’  They were created by a powerful and awesome God whose very nature is full of majesty & splendour!  The best part is – He created it all for us to enjoy, yet man rejects Him and His ‘rescue plan’ just as the man in the story did when he refused to help the rescuers when they tried to save him!  How foolish we can be!
