Community Carols

On December 12, 2009, almost four thousand people gathered on the lawn of the Dapto oval to celebrate Christmas as a community. It was the seventh year of the event, which included face painting, sausage sizzles, camel rides, laser skirmish, jumping castles, a special appearance by Ronald McDonald and several talented local musicians and dancers. The evening culminated with carols sung by a choir made up of a group of Dapto residents, and a shimmering fireworks display.

The Crossway has played a core role in the success of the carols and has worked alongside four other churches over the past several years to turn the Carols into a highly anticipated community event.

Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the event happen each year, and thousands of hours are put in beginning mid-way through the year.

“It is a true example and shining light to the community of how all believers can work together in unity,” said Pastor MaryAnn Mansu.

This year’s Community Carols included the option to take a camel ride, an unusual and exciting opportunity for both young and old. A beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace” played on a set of bagpipes sent chills up the listener’s spines, and a cheery version of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” sent all the attendees home with a happy feeling of Christmas in their hearts.
