Something Worth Talking About

John 9:5

The news seems worse lately – darker, scarier, more treacherous and more downright heartbreaking.  Everyone’s longing for good news.

We’ve got us some good news. Really good news, the type that lasts, that brings hope and comfort, that sheds light and shows the way.  The type that makes a difference to peoples lives.

In John 9: 5 Jesus says ~ “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.  Well He is in us  – so that makes you and I light in this darkness – yep – you and I – good news  – and I guess that’s where we get tripped up sometimes – we think we are not up to the task or that we have to  do something really special or  something spectacularly awesome to be light to anyone.

What if we do something ordinary then and let God do something spectacularly awesome with it.  In church a few weeks back there was a great word of encouragement given that really stuck with me  -” you and I are a spark – who and what can you ignite this week” A spark is all it takes to create a beautiful warming fire  – and that’s the God’s bit.

What if we just start noticing and acknowledging people and doing what we can to help them like Jesus did. Jesus was practical; He met people’s needs – right where they were at in the middle of their mess. He healed the man of his blindness freely without conditions attached and only later He asked him – “Do you believe in the Son of God”. So what if we just did what we could to love and care for people, make a phone call, cook a meal, hang out, listen, talk, tell our story, hear their story.  No guarantee of a return, no guarantee it wont get messy and uncomfortable – just ordinary things – a spark – but for that person  – it just might be spectacularly awesome.

What if we just start talking about what Jesus has done for us, like the man healed of his blindness did. He didn’t know a lot but he knew that he had been blind and now he could see – the religious arguments of the Pharisees didn’t stand a chance. He had met with Jesus and tasted and seen His goodness for himself.  What Jesus has done in our lives is our fertile ground, our tilled soil  – our good news – our light. Let’s not under estimate its worth and let’s not be afraid to share it.
