Real-ly, True-ly

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

I was thinking again this week about truth and honest to God – ness and getting things out into His light and this verse got me pondering on how that plays out between you and I.

I think us women crave real connection with each other  – but we make it hard cause we don’t want to tell each other the truth.  We don’t want to show our unlovelier, not so glamourous, just out of bed no makeup side  – – –  – we put our game faces on, we take our  “I’ve got it all together” stance and show that to the world   – were careful not to let our undies show!!  We all have some version of that going on – its based on our performance, its exhausting and unfulfilling and it disconnects us.  The thing is – that unlovely not so glamorous stuff has a part to play – its got a story to tell.

So what happens when we start to be more real with each other, when we drop the game face and let others see the more vulnerable side, when we start to talk a little about the things we are struggling with, when we invite someone in even when the house is a mess.  The first thing I know I hear is a collective sigh of relief and a “oh thank God – I’m not the only one”

Letting our imperfections show says we are human and that we need God’s help and mercy everyday but it serves another purpose.  It puts others at ease, it lets them know they are not alone in there struggles, that they can relax and be themselves, that they don’t have to perform or be perfect to be accepted and loved – and this is the territory where real hand in hand walk the extra mile connections happen, where life long alliances are formed and best friends are made, where we have each others back, where together we can laugh, cry, pray, drink coffee, spur one another on and most importantly point each other in the direction of His life giving healing light.

So go on show your undies occasionally – I’ll be there to cheer you on.

Any thoughts on this subject? – I’d love to hear.
